Dedicated to Meeting Your Training Needs
FEMP remains deeply committed to supporting the Federal energy management community in meeting the requirements outlined in:
- 42 U.S.C. § 8262: Defining “trained energy managers” and requiring comprehensive programs to ensure proficiency in areas like building energy systems, codes, accounting, life-cycle cost, fuel supply, and instrumentation.
- 40 U.S.C. § 581 (Federal Buildings Personnel Training Act – FBPTA): Mandating demonstration of core competencies within one year for individuals (including contractors) involved in building operations, maintenance, energy management, safety, and design.
Exploring Alternative Training: A Response to Travel Constraints
While we are disappointed to postpone the traditional Energy Exchange event, FEMP is committed to providing you with the same high-quality training and networking opportunities you’ve come to expect. We’re exploring a series of new training formats that build upon the foundation of Energy Exchange, and we will share more details as they become available:
- July 2025 – FEMP Pre-Event Workshops: We are considering virtual options for previously planned FEMP Pre-Event Workshops in late July 2025.
- August 5-7, 2025 – FEMP Training Event: We intend to offer a training event during the original Energy Exchange dates. Hold these dates for alternative training opportunities. Note: This event will not include trade show elements.
We’re working diligently to create new solutions that still allow you to:
- Connect with experts
- Learn best practices for achieving energy efficiency and cost savings
- Meet your training needs as defined federal regulations
Stay Tuned for More Information!
We will provide updates on these summer 2025 training offerings through the FEMP Digest and on the FEMP Website. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support as we develop these new strategies.

QUESTIONS ABOUT REGISTRATION?
Please note that travel priority to attend this year’s event will be given to DOE and National Laboratory attendees who have been invited to be speakers, moderators or have been identified as requiring critical training. This may result in a request to individuals who have registered but not received an invitation to alter their registration or travel reservations. The Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) and the DOE Sustainability Performance Office (SPO) will continually monitor the registration lists to ensure access to the event for all DOE program offices and that travel quotas are not exceeded. Additional details will be released to DOE staff on attending Energy Exchange. If you are interested in attending but unsure if or when you should register, please contact EExTechTraining@pnnl.gov for more information.

We appreciate your interest in attending the Energy Exchange and understand that limited travel and training budgets can present a challenge in obtaining approval to attend. To help with this, a customizable Letter of Justification will be available for attendees.
By outlining the potential benefits and/or returns on your attendance investment, this justification resource offers a starting point for explaining the benefits that attending this event has for you as an attendee as well as for your larger organization.
